I was born 1945 at Brandenburg / Havel (near by Berlin, former GDR) where I went to school for one year. After the uprising of 17 June 1953 in GDR, very friendly relatives in Bavaria (in Upper Franconia) offered help and lodging for my mother, my sister and me after a sudden escape to West-Berlin. Years later I returned to Berlin for studying Meteorology at Free University Berlin (Diploma). I experienced the so-called “68-years” consciously. Since 1973 I worked with Deutscher Wetterdienst (DWD) at Offenbach. I learned to look into the future (weather forecasting) and I learned that it is possible to simulate and predict the complex behavior of global atmosphere (and other systems) by physical and mathematical methods. With weather forecast models (and climate models) numeric experiments are possible, which cannot performed otherwise in this part of physics. My special field was the evaluation and interpretation of digital data and images of meteorological satellites (Meteosat etc.). 1982 I switched to the large computer centre of DWD for software development and later for interactive digital graphical systems (1987 a very novelty) . Until 2007 I was responsible for the information technology of the DWD, besides for Quality Management introduction (ISO 9001). After early retirement we enjoy our life at Taunus mountain range (northern of Frankfurt).
